Installing a shaft on a cultivator seems simple, but getting it wrong breaks gearboxes.

1. The “Overlap” Rule: When the machine is in its working position, the tubes must overlap by at least half their length. In the transport (lifted) position, they must overlap by at least 1/3. Less than that, and you risk a bent tube.
2. “बॉटम आउट” जाँच: Raise the linkage fully. Check the shaft. If it’s fully compressed and tight, you are crushing the tractor’s PTO bearing. You need to cut it shorter. Leave at least 30mm of “breathing room.”
3. Clutch Maintenance: If you use a friction clutch, loosen the springs and slip it (“burnish it”) at the start of every season to remove rust. Then re-tighten. A seized clutch is just a heavy solid coupler.
