The “Short-Coupled” Challenge: Why Standard Shafts Don’t Fit<\/h2>\n

If you are operating an Isodiametric Tractor<\/strong> (where all four wheels are the same size) in the Netherlands, you aren’t doing “normal” farming. You are likely navigating the tight rows of a pear orchard in the Betuwe<\/strong>, managing steep vineyard slopes in South Limburg<\/strong>, or maintaining municipal dykes with a low-center-of-gravity machine. Whether it\u2019s an Antonio Carraro<\/strong>, a Ferrari<\/strong>, or a BCS<\/strong>, these machines are engineering marvels of stability and traction. But in my 18 years of driveline engineering, I\u2019ve learned they have one major quirk: The Geometry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These tractors are designed to be compact. The distance between the PTO output stub and the implement\u2019s gearbox is often incredibly short\u2014sometimes less than 600mm. A standard agricultural PTO shaft, even when cut down, often runs out of “telescopic stroke.” When you lift the 3-point hitch to turn at the end of a row, the shaft bottoms out (compresses fully). Bang. You\u2019ve just cracked your tractor\u2019s transmission casing. We see this happen every spring.<\/p>\n

The solution requires a completely different approach to shaft design. We use “Short-Series” Profile Tubes<\/strong> that allow for maximum overlap in a minimum compressed length. We also utilize Compact Wide-Angle (CV) Joints<\/strong> that can handle the sharp articulation of the tractor (knikbesturing) without the dreaded “chatter” that destroys gearbox seals. It\u2019s about fitting big power into a small space.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
